The build Part 3, Deck work and fittings

24th March: This section will follow the progress of the deck work, fittings and everything up until the masts and spars.

7th April: I have been busy with the intricate detail on the foredeck. The Pinrails with lower deadeyes are particularly chalenging. Not least actually gluing them to the bulwarks as they do not curve very well with multiple holes and slots they have a tendency to snap. The nails in the bottom of the deadeyes had to be trimmed and ground on the outside of the hull.

Unfortunately there is a missing laser cut sheet so I have had to request a replacement from Artesania. Which is supposedly on it's way from Hong Kong.

This has meant I have had to leave some of the fittings including the latrines and the bow storeroom. I have also found the instructions to be less than complete. So have had to make up some things. For example:

With parts 121, 122, 123, 124, 125, 126, 127, 128 and 26 mount the bow storeroom.
With parts 26, 103, 129 and 130 mount the latrine bilge pump. With parts 131, 132, 133, 134, 135 and 136 mount the windlass and with parts 137, 138, 139, 140, 141, 142, 143, 144, 145 and 146 mount the latrines.

With the tiny photo.

There are also not enough lengths of some of the strip wood, and I have had to order more 1mm brass wire.

17th April: Still waiting parts so a significant slow down. I have been making up parts to attach but current tracking is saying mid June for delivery from HK.

Struggling with the accommodation ladder rails.

14th July: The parts have arrived so getting back to finishing the deck fittings.

17th August: Update. I have now finished the deckwork with the new parts. I had to extend the lifeboat supports as they did not reach across the ship, so a bit of invention there. but the model is now ready fro the rigging and sails.
